Robust 1-D equivalent of phase-correlation image registration algorithm

An alternative version of the phase-correlation algorithm for image registrataion is presented. It is based on consideration of an N2 elements 1-D vector instead of an N x N pixel matrix. While the total number of operations does not change, this organization lends itself to a straightforward hardware implementation, which is less demanding in terms of memory performance.
