Grating loboes caused by parallel-plate polariser
Abstract
An unexpected high-level sidelobe was encountered when a parallel-plate polarizer was fitted to a slotted waveguide array. This letter shows that the sidelobe was a grating lobe, and explains the physical mechanism using grating lobe theory and linear near-field measurements. It is also shown that the parallel-plate polarizer is generally susceptible to grating lobe problems if used with squinting antennas.
