Gain properties of free-electron lasers under the action of a gradient magnetic field
Abstract
Gain properties of free-electron lasers are calculated in which a gradient magnetic field is superimposed on a spatially periodic magnetic field along the axis of the wiggler. It is shown that better operating properties of laser gain are obtained by the use of a uniform magnetic field.
