Some peculiarities of absorption in the upper D-region during solar flares
Abstract
Short-wave fadeout (SWF) effects, observed at the Sofia Geophysical Observatory at an equivalent frequency of about 2 MHz in 1969, were used to investigate absorption in the D-region. Data were obtained revealing the proportionality between absorption and X-ray radiation in the 0.1-0.8 and 0.8-2.0 nm ranges. In some cases, the extent of absorption was such that it exceeded the receiver's sensitivity threshold and the saturation effect could hence be seen.
