Electrooptic properties of incompletely ordered media - Lead magnesium niobate and cadmium pyroniobate ferroelectrics
Abstract
The properties of incompletely ordered media, such as ferroelectrics with a broad phase transition, are reviewed with particular reference to PbMg1/2Nb2/3O3 and Cd2Nb2O7 ferroelectrics. Emphasis is placed on the electrooptic properties; the effect of these properties on the polarization orientation of the polar regions of the phases coexisting in the broadened transition range is demonstrated. The factors causing the broadening of the phase transitions in the crystals studied are examined.
