The plating algorithm for radiation script-F transfer factor
Abstract
Script-F transfer factor calculations are conducted in conventional engineering radiation heat transfer analyses of enclosures. The present alternative to the standard matrix inversion routine (that is followed by matrix multiplications) addresses the question as to how the script-F transfer factors for an enclosure will be changed by plating a black surface so that its emissivity will be changed from 1 to its actual value. The answer offered is a set of recursion relations that allow the transfer factors to be ascertained on the basis of the shape factors in N plating steps. These recursion equations display properties that permit comparisons to be made in assessing roundoff errors introduced during computation.
