Spacing streamwise vortices on concave walls
Abstract
A number of conditions affecting the selection of a preferred spanwise wavelength in the establishment of streamwise vortices by the Goertler instability mechanism on a concave wall are studied. It is found that a system of streamwise vortices fixed in space evolves on the test wall in approximate independece of Reynolds and Goertler numbers, and that the boundary layer seems to be primarily responsive to disturbances close to the most amplified ones.
