Direct simulation of a turbulent homogeneous shear flow with buoyancy
Abstract
The paper presents the results of a numerical solution of the exact time-dependent three-dimensional Navier-Stokes and temperature equations for a turbulent flow possessing uniform gradients of the mean velocity and temperature in a direction parallel to that of the gravitational vector. Buoyancy effects on the transport of heat and momentum are examined and compared with available experimental data and those obtained via turbulence closure models.
