A spectral analysis of smooth flat-plate boundary layers
Abstract
Spectra of smooth-walled zero pressure gradient boundary layers are presented for the fully turbulent wall region. Data are analyzed in the context of Townsend's (1976) attached eddy hypothesis and the similarity proposals of Perry and Chong (1982). Within the limitations of cross-wired anemometry, the similarity proposals presented here are given encouraging support. An analysis of the data so far published in the literature illustrates that the ability to produce accurate measurement of the normal component of turbulence intensity is poor. This needs to be improved.
