Computer simulation of orbital mechanics
Abstract
Developments related to the proposed Space Station, the Strategic Defense Initiative program, and the projected commercialization of space will require the conduction of extensive analyses in the field of astrodynamics. In this context, education in the area of astrodynamics is becoming increasingly important. It is pointed out, however, that this need is not being appropriately met in the U.S. schools. A potential answer to this problem involves education through computer graphics, and, in a former project, an attempt was made to teach astrodynamics by computer graphics. The present paper is concerned with a project which considers a continuation of the former attempt. Attention is given to alterations performed on the existing program, the demonstration plates, the supporting subprograms, and user-interactive lessons.
