Pyroelectric activity in non-centrosymmetric Langmuir-Blodgett films
Abstract
A mechanism to deposit noncentrosymmetric Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films is described. The device can produce noncentrosymmetric organic films with useful properties such as pyroelectric and optically nonlinear behavior. Pyroelectric activity was observed and quantified in an acid/amine alternating layer LB film. As materials with custom-designed properties become available, these synthetic low-dimensional solids can produce a variety of effects with device potential.
