Probabilistic solutions of generalized birth and death equations and application to nonrelativistic electrodynamics
Abstract
Probabilistic solutions to the equations describing nonrelativistic quantum electrodynamical systems are presented. The solutions involve, besides the usual diffusion processes, birth and death processes corresponding to the photon number variables. Inequalities are stated, and bounds to the ground state energy of systems composed by a nonrelativistic particle interacting with a field are established. The result is general and is applied as an example to the polaron problem.
