A charge-sensitive readout technique for infrared photoconductors
Abstract
Hybrid detector focal planes employing large storage capacity (100 pF) for use in astronomical spectrophotometric systems operating in the 10-micron region are investigated. The focal plane consists of a linear array of 128 silicon-bismuth doped photoconductor detector elements on 8-mil centers. Each array element is attached to a storage capacitor and to an input of a multiplexer. Of particular interest is the quantity of charge produced by the photoconductor during the integration time. In this readout scheme, the signal charge stored on the focal plane is transferred completely to the input of a transcapacitance amplifier (TCA). The TCA was built using an OP-05 op-amp and a DG200 reset switch, and data acquisition was performed using a 16-bit microcomputer, a 12-bit A/D converter, programmable gain amplifier and sample/hold, and a general purpose I/O board.
