Failure prevention in spaceborne high voltage electronics
Abstract
The use of viscoelastic materials (silicone, polyurethane) in high-voltage space electronics applications is considered. The sources of failure electronics potting module designs due to high mechanical stress and thermal cycling are discussed, and some results of recent materials characterization experiments are reviewed. A new design approach for a long-life (10-year) space-based electronics potting module is proposed.
