Local heat transfer behavior in turbulent flow around a 180 deg bend of square cross section
Abstract
The present paper reports experiments which provide extensive data of convective heat transfer in a configuration for which the velocity field is already well mapped. The internal consistency of the measurements appears to be good. The data should, therefore, be helpful in an assessment of the accuracy of numerical methods for solving the momentum and energy equations under three-dimensional turbulent flow conditions. Attention is given to the employed apparatus, instrumentation, experimental procedures, experimental uncertainties, the scope of the experimental program, the development of the mean velocity profile on the plane of symmetry through a 180 deg bend, the development of the streamwise turbulence intensity on the plane of symmetry through the 180 deg bend, mean temperature profiles, and local Nusselt number developments.
