Modeling taper charge with a nonlinear equation
Abstract
Work aimed at modeling the charge voltage and current characteristics of nickelcadmium cells subject to taper charge is presented. Work reported at previous NASA Battery Workshops has shown that the voltage of cells subject to constant current charge and discharge can be modeled very accurately with the equation: voltage = A + (B/(CX)) + De to the Ex where A, B, D, and E are fit parameters and x is amphr of charge removed during discharge or returned during charge. In a constant current regime, x is also equivalent to time on charge or discharge.
