Adaptive array techniques for direction finding
Abstract
A computer program for studying the performance of adaptive array direction finding algorithms is examined. The features of the program such as flexible array specifications, and modeling of multipath, array errors, and finite integration are described. The noise eigenvector pattern (NEP) and scanned adaptive beam (SAB) algorithms for a direction finding system are examined. The performance of an array of five isotropic elements is evaluated using the NEP, SAB, and scanned fixed beam methods. The effects of the finite signal to noise ratio, multipath, and finite integration on the direction finding system are investigated. The data reveal that with a single signal good performance is obtained with substantial errors for an array of only about one wavelength aperture.
