Effective moment of inertia of liquids
Abstract
The Navier-Stokes equation is solved for completely filled axisymmetrical containers, and the velocity distribution, damping, and effective moment of inertia of a viscous, incompressible liquid are determined for a harmonic rolling impulse. Various analytical results are given for frictionless and viscous liquids. The results are compared with experimental ones obtained from measurements using an inertial moment rotary table.
