Development of methods of laser powder surfacing
Abstract
Methods of laser powder-surfacing of substrates made of various materials by commercial Ni-Cr-B-Si alloys, hard alloys, and cast iron powders are discussed. The processes of producing metal coatings by either melting the deposited powder paste, by gas-powder laser surfacing (GPLS), or by surfacing with the feed of filler powder into the melting zone have been examined, with attention focused on the formation of deposited beads, and their structure and properties. Special consideration is given to the surfacing of diesel valves, whose durability is increased by depositing wear-resisting alloys on the chamfers. A device for rotating the valve with the chamfer positioned horizontally in the surfacing area was developed for laser-surfacing by the GPLS method.
