Type 'PRIZ' spatial-temporal light modulator having a fiber-optic input
Abstract
The design and operation of a spatial-temporal light modulator (STLM) which uses a photorefractive bismuth silicate crystal are described. The advantages of the two passes of light through the crystal and the use of a fiber plate provide to STLM are examined. The crystal thickness, wavelengths, diffraction efficiency, sensitivity, response time, and resolution values for the STLM are presented. The relationship between signal spatial frequency and the diffraction efficiency is investigated. The uses of a polarization-optical method or a diffraction method to read out the optical information are analyzed.
