Meteosat operational introduction of new carriers in A2 Meteorological Data Dissemination (MDD)
Abstract
The possibility of replacing several Meteosat meteorological data dissemination (MDD) carriers by a higher bit rate carrier, and replacing one MDD carrier by a lower bit rate carrier was studied. The power sharing between the carriers and the intermodulation products (C/I ratios) are evaluated. It is concluded that replacing 5 MDD carriers by the high bit rate carrier (at 2.4 kbs) does not degrade the reception of the remaining MDD carriers, and that the reception of the new carrier with a bit error rate of 0.000001 is possible, assuming that a suitable frequency plan is chosen. For the reception of the low bit rate carrier the result is similar, but the C/I ratio obtained must be used with care because of the limits of the simulation.
