Broadband simulation of multipath propagation in VHF mobile radio
Abstract
A broadband simulator which allows the reproduction of the essential characteristics of mobile radio communication was designed and built. The statistics of multipath propagation, and modulation perturbations due to multipath propagation are discussed. Simulator and control concepts for VHF multipath mobile radio are presented. The technical realization of the simulation of the reflected signals and vehicle motions was performed by variable retardation modules. The parameters can be changed with a calculator or manually. Control programs were developed for real time simulation. The simulator processes signals between 50 and 70 MHz. The dynamic range is 30 dB. The input signal can be shifted by 1.7 microsec for a 5 Mhz bandwidth. The simulator allows a broadband reproduction of multipath propagation.
