Modal parameter estimation from driven-base tests
Abstract
The theory for a modal method of extraction of modal parameters from uniaxial driven base tests is outlined. With accelerometer data from the driven base and points on the structure, modal frequencies, damping factors, mode shapes, and the product of modal momentum times normalization constant can be determined. The results of a structure tested in driven base random and sine are presented. The structure tested was chosen to represent a configuration typical of communications satellite in stowed configuration. The driven base results are compared with those obtained from a fixed base single point random survey.
