Optical radiation measurements; Proceedings of the Meeting, San Diego, CA, August 21, 22, 1984
Abstract
Subjects related to radiometry are discussed, taking into account the design and fabrication of a self-calibrating germanium photodiode, near-infrared limitations to silicon photodetector self-calibration, the use of field radiometers in reflectance factor and atmospheric measurements, detectors for picosecond optical power measurements, and radiometric characterization methods for infrared countermeasures systems. Laser beam measurements are considered, giving attention to beam profiling in gigawatt 1064-nm lasers used in research on optical materials, beam profile measurements for target designators, beam and spot profile measurement methods for optical storage systems, the use of optical processing to find the beam profile of a laser pulse (theory), and pyroelectric matrix arrays for laser beam imaging. A description of applications of radiation measurements is also provided. The topics explored are concerned with an enclosed laser calibration standard, problems in infrared calibration and a calorimeter for measuring 1-15 kJ laser pulses.
