Ionosphere influence on MHD wave bundle propagation
Abstract
The horizontal propagation of geomagnetic variations with periods exceeding 30 seconds excited by bundles of hydromagnetic waves of varying polarization is investigated. The primary magnetic field is assumed to be orthogonal to the ionosphere and the Earth's suface. Expressions are derived for fields at long distances from the source. When the distances are sufficient, the wave is found to travel along the ground at the Alfven velocity.
