Fluctuation of millimeter-wave beams in hydrometeors on an extended near-earth path
Abstract
The propagation of millimeter-wave beams (lambda = 8.4 mm) in hydrometeors was studied experimentally on a near-earth path with a back-reflection extent of 34 km. It is shown that significant variations of the propagation direction and arrival angle of millimeter waves can occur in rain on extended paths. This can lead to an additional increase of fluctuations in received-signal amplitude when highly directional transmit and receive antennas are used.
