Effect of refraction on the propagation of a wave beam in a turbulent medium (an atmosphere)
Abstract
The influence of regular refraction on the propagation of a wave beam (e.g., a laser-radar beam) in a turbulent medium is analyzed on the basis of the linear approximation of the averaged vertical permittivity profile in the framework of the parabolic quasi-optics equation using the diffusion approximation. It is shown that both turbulent widening and regular displacement of the whole beam occur. It is also shown that the time dependence of the vertical gradient of mean permittivity does not vary along the path.
