Determination of the N(h) profile of the ionosphere using compression and decompression of linear-FM signals
Abstract
An algorithm for obtaining height profiles of ionospheric electron density from differential ionograms using the compression or decompression of reflected linear-FM signals is proposed. It is shown that the method of differential ionograms can be used for a highly accurate determination of the N(h) profile. It also allows a sufficiently accurate determination of the vertical extent of nonmonotonic parts of the profile (e.g., in the presence of interlayer valleys).
