Leaky wave of a cylindrical slotted waveguide
Abstract
The field distribution of the leaky wave (LW) of a circular longitudinally slotted cylinder in the near field of the source was studied experimentally. The dispersion, attenuation, and distribution of the LW field were measured in the near and far fields of the structure at wavelengths of 4 and 8 mm. It is shown that an open waveguide structure in the LW mode is capable of sustaining the same oscillation process as in the case of slow surface waves. Results indicate that an LW, besides being the natural mode of the structure, is also part of the total field, which can be interpreted as the sum of the LW field and the emission field.
