Nonlinear perturbations in the phase front of a powerful microwave beam in the ionosphere
Abstract
Ionospheric plasma perturbations resulting from the passage of a powerful directed microwave beam are examined analytically in connection with the increasing interest in the concept of space-based solar power stations in geostationary orbit. The distortions of phase characteristics of the beam and their effect on the efficiency of transmission are assessed. Furthermore, the possibility of modeling the processes using land-based systems is examined by considering the structure of a beam emitted from earth at sufficiently large altitudes.
