Experimental and theoretical investigations of open resonators
Abstract
The scalar integral equation for open resonators is derived. The complex eivenvalue determines power loss and phase shift per transit. The eigenfunction represents the field distribution on a reflector. This distribution is used to calculate the field inside the resonant volume. An experimental setup to measure the resonant frequencies and the quality factors was designed. The field was scanned with small spheres. The quality, the resonant frequency and the amplitude of the signal were recorded simultaneously. Data agree with the theoretical ones.
