Amplification of narrow-band stochastic signals by a wide-band type-O traveling-wave tube
Abstract
Characteristics of the amplification by a wide-band type-O traveling-wave tube of stochastic signals whose spectral density is distributed in accordance with the frequency dependence of the gain of the reentrant resonator are examined. It is shown that amplification in this case is practically as efficient energetically as for monochromatic signals. However, changes occur in the spectral characteristics of the amplified signals even when the amplifier is operated in the linear regime. These changes include a broadening of the spectral characteristics of the narrow-band signals being amplified and a transformation in the central part of the spectrum. Changes also occur in the statistical parameters of the narrow-band signals.
