Shearfree interaction of two isotropic turbulent fields
Abstract
The generation of a simple turbulent flow by an oscillating grid consisting of two parts with different rod diameters and steps between rods is considered. This flow is characterized by an absence of averagedvelocity shear and by a pronounced nonuniformity of the spatial distribution of the statistical characteristics of velocity fluctuations. It is shown that there exists a region in which the flow is selfsimilar. The results are pertinent to the analysis of the interaction of turbulent fields, involving such phenomena as the evolution of a boundary layer, jet, or wake in a turbulent outer flow.
