The structure of the broad-line region of the galaxy NGC 4151.
Abstract
When applied to the nuclear region in the Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151 where the broad emission lines are formed, the model of a homogeneous distribution of emission-line clouds around the ionizing-continuum source predicts a time delay in the peak of flares in the H-alpha line, but not in the higher-order Balmer lines, relative to the maximum continuum flux, in good accord with the observations. If a cloud-free zone does surround the central source, it can occupy only a small fraction of the volume of the whole broad-line region.
