Real time measurement of the transit time variation in a multifiber optical cable
Abstract
Real-time measurements of the delay time of a signal in a fiber optic cable have been carried out using a pulse method and a phase method. The signals included a sinusoidal signal of 5 MHz and several square pulses lasting about 200 ns. The length of the cable was 715 meters. Variations in the signal transit time are plotted against changes in cable temperature in the range 0-20 C. A schematic diagram of the experimental setup is provided.
