Infrared experiment aboard the automatic interplanetary stations Venera 15 and Venera 16. IV. Preliminary results of an analysis of spectrain the region of the H2O and SO2 absorption bands.
Abstract
A large group of absorption features belonging to the rotational band is identified along with the fundamental rotational-vibrational band nu2 of H2O. Two SO2 absorption bands are identified: nu2 at 519/cm and nu3 at 1360/cm. Preliminary estimates show that the H2O mixture ratio is 30 ppm at a height of 85 km, and that the SO2 mixture ratio is 2 ppm at 66 km. Both quantities (obtained from spectra determined at medium latitudes on October 14, 1983) were determined with an accuracy up to a factor of approximately 3.
