Results of muon studies at the Aragats mountain station
Abstract
Measurements of the muon component of extensive air showers were carried out at the Aragats station using a magnetic spectrometer, a spark calorimeter, and a scintillation telescope. Results are presented concerning a number of experimental tasks, including: (1) analysis of the pulse spectrum and charge composition of the muon flux; (2) calibration of techniques for measuring muon energy by the spark calorimeter; (3) analysis of the spectra of cascades generated by muons through electromagnetic interactions in the lead absorbers of the calorimeter; (4) measurement of the main characteristics of hadron production by muons on lead nuclei; and (5) investigation of the intensity of muon groups and horizontal EAS at mountain altitudes.
