A new leaky wave antenna for millimeter waves using an asymmetric strip in groove guide. I - Theory. II - Design considerations
Abstract
Attention is given to a novel leaky wave antenna design by which fabrication is facilitated, through the use of a longitudinally continuous aperture, and in which high metal loss at higher frequencies is reduced through the incorporation of the low loss 'groove' waveguide. An analysis based on a transverse equivalent network is presented for the properties of this leaky structure, taking the conversion from the bound to a leaky mode into account. The second part of this work takes up the relations between leaky wave properties and the design of antennas, with a view to such aspects of design as frequency-independent optimization considerations. Numerical results are obtained, and their revelance to leaky wave antenna performance is discussed.
