HDTV - A DBS perspective
Abstract
A television corporation is engaged in building the first U.S. high-power direct broadcast satellite (DBS) system to provide pay-television services. It is tried to establish a home high-definition television (HDTV) system which would be perceived by consumers to provide a major television improvement. The present investigation considers several HDTV systems which have been studied. Each system is described and its advantages and drawbacks are examined. Attention is given to the description of a HDTV system, the perspective from a DBS operator, the initial NHK system, the CBS system, compatible syb-Nyquist sampling approaches, and the NHK MUSE system.
