Modification of Clauser's hypothesis for equilibrium and nonequilibrium boundary layers
Abstract
A modification of Clauser's classical hypothesis for the turbulent viscosity in the exterior domain of a boundary layer is proposed on the basis of dimensional analysis and an analysis of experimental studies of turbulent boundary layers in the presence of longitudinal pressure drops. The dependence of the turbulent viscosity on the (Clauser) equilibrium parameter and its derivative with respect to the longitudinal coordinate is established. The variation of the boundary-layer structure as a function of these parameters is demonstrated. The results of calculations using the modified and classical Clauser equations are compared with the experimental data.
