Some results of a study of the efficiency of external injection into a microtron
Abstract
Test data for an externally injected 6.5-MeV microtron indicate that the efficiency of such a microtron is higher than that of a conventional microtron with respect to both the capture ratio and the utilized microwave power. The high reliability of the accelerating structure makes it possible to use acceleration regimes with high ratios of the cyclotron frequency field to the microtron magnetic field (2-4). It is concluded that externally injected microtrons can provide high beam intensities and high reliability in commercial and research applications, such as free-electron laser pumping and accelerator injection.
