Unresolved carrier phase ambiguity and trellis decoding of CPFSK signals
Abstract
Two examples of trellis decoding (TD) of continuous-phase frequency-shift-keyed (CPFSK) signals were considered: the TD of binary and quarternary CPFSK signals. It was concluded that TD of CPFSK signals is transparent to the phase ambiguities of the locally generated reference tones. This observation implies that the realization of the coherent demodulator can be simplified by avoiding ambiguity-resolving circuitry, and that the techniques of differential encoding and differential decoding of data can be omitted.
