Reflection of magnetoionic waves from a steep density gradient. I. Incident extraordinary mode.
Abstract
Calculations of the relative magnitudes of the four secondary waves produced when a magnetoionic wave encounters an electron density discontinuity within an anisotropic plasma are presented. The author identifies the different conditions under which each of the secondary waves is the dominant mode, and determines some general properties of the reflection process.
