A new photometric system for monitoring carbon star variability
Abstract
Narrow-band photometries for studying carbon stars are reviewed, and a cooperative photometric program for studying them is proposed along with a suggested photometric system. The program would involve investigating the behavior of a set of selected stars by permanent monitoring in the largest spectral range. For this purpose, a set of filters adapted to current receivers is proposed, giving the feature to be studied, the wavelengths involved, the star prototype, and the stellar region to be depicted. The roles of amateurs of ground-based and space middle-sized facilities, and of large facilities in this project are briefly addressed.
