Landau coefficients of the Blasius boundary-layer flow
Abstract
The weakly nonlinear stability theory of Stuart and Watson is modified for rigorous definition of the Landau coefficient valid in the amplification region of linear theory. A rational formulation is derived through refining defintion of the amplitude of disturbances and taking into account distortion of the distribution function across the boundary layer from the eigenfunction. Numerical evaluations of the new Landau coefficient are made for the Blasius flow in the range of Reynolds number up to 2000.
