Behavior orbits of two coupled oscillators
Abstract
Progress was made in understanding the structure of two-dimensional area-preserving maps. It is used to understand the essential features of the behavior of two coupled nonlinear oscillators, or any equivalent system. A Poincare map of rho versus theta at integer times, with a number of orbits, is shown. It shows periodic orbits as sets of points, KAM oribts as closed curves, and chaotic orbits as bands. The calculation of boundary KAM curves specifies the choatic bands. It is found that renormalization produces finite procedures which determine the behavior of coupled oscillator systems.
