Optimizing communications satellite reliability
Abstract
The management tools being developed within the Intelsat Product Assurance (PA) Group to effectively monitor and influence the implementation of the PA plan are discussed. The importance of a good data base as the foundation of a systematic effort toward the optimization of satellite reliability is emphasized. The key elements of the PA are presented in outline, and the role of the contractor is discussed. The integration of all PA disciplines to optimize reliability of the Intelsat program is examined, summarizing the group methods being utilized. The method by which the test failure report (TFR) data base stores data from failure reports is summarized. The TFR selector program, which provides for TFR selection by keywords, is described in terms of present capabilities and planned improvements and is depicted along with the failure report format.
