Canadian applications for the L-SAT spacecraft
Abstract
The suitability of the ESA Large Telecommunications Satellite (L-SAT) spacecraft design to meet the requirements of four typical Canadian domestic missions is described. The main features of the L-SAT configuration are indicated, showing the growth capability of the various configurations that apply to parameters such as satellite lift-off mass, DC power, payload content, and antenna pointing accuracy. The main elements of the satellite development program are outlined. The Canadian missions discussed include a land-mobile services demonstration mission, a direct broadcast service, a domestic telecommunications service, and a remote sensing mission.
