A collocation solution to the two-D unsteady Navier-Stokes equations
Abstract
A multi-element collocation finite element method (MCFEM) is presented for solving the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. The MCFEM has a reduced continuity, with collocation used only in the element interiors, while integration covers the nodes. Favorable comparisons are made with conventional FEM calculations for flow over a backward-facing step, although both methods display decreased accuracy when the flow experiences convective acceleration.
