Generation of high laser-radiation harmonics in plasma due to electron-beam reversal
Abstract
The effect of electron-beam reversal and the consequent generation of several tens of harmonics are studied on the basis of experimental data for a high-power CO2 laser. The spectra of the harmonics generated during discontinuity formation, the collision of two discontinuities, and Coulomb and collective electron/ion friction are considered. The analytical results agree best with experimental data for the interaction between the reversed electron beam and small-scale ion-density perturbations. It is suggested that beam reversal is an important factor in the absorption of intense electromagnetic waves.
